Business Mentoring

Many individuals with disabilities who are trying to work have conditions that impact their ability to maintain consistent employment. SERN’s small business mentoring program is somewhat similar to job coaches in evidenced-based supported employment. Unlike traditional small business mentors, our mentors are peers well-versed and knowledgeable about disability accommodations and linkages that exist between vocational rehabilitation services and other programs that serve small businesses and people with disabilities. The strength of coalition between assistive technology, navigating benefits planning, advocacy, life experience and other valuable resources is proving to be particularly effective in helping individuals make informed decisions about whether self-employment is their best career choice.

Is self-employment a good idea for you? Or, have you already made the decision to start a business? A business mentor can help you start, maintain, grow your business and help you with the disability related issues that commonly face a business owner with a disability.

The mentoring program is expanding and new mentoring opportunities will be posted on the website as they become available.
